Hi Jenny
I was making a donation & saw your mid-December update so thought I'd say a little hello!

I did write a little about my Christmas with my family ... but I paused for a rest mid-writing ... obviously too long as it disappeared when I tried to write again ... argh! Technology! My husband would tell me I should have written it in notes first & copied it across but I only intended to say hello!! Hehe!

Thank you for taking time & precious energies to share the above about your childhood Christmas' with photos.

Yes I use to enjoy Sara Lee' deserts especially the Lemon Meringue Pie when we first married ... only last week we were reminiscing about Sara Lee deserts when my husband gave Tesco' Meringue pie he ate a thumbs down ... not even sure the company exists anymore ...?

I find the last fortnight of Dec a marathon ... there's my birthday on 14th and hubby' on Christmas Eve all before Christmas Day itself.
My 19yr daughter like you can't contain herself with anticipation & excitement & doesn't sleep much on Christmas Eve & use to let me know about it until 1-2am .... she' an early riser too at 6am ... she eagerly woke everyone & was so relieved to open her presents! After that she got tireder & out of sorts & grumpy as the day wore on. So about 6yrs ago we decided to open stocking presents during the evening of Christmas Eve. She loves it as it's released her inner tension of excitement & eagerly waiting & she goes to sleep all night. Amazingly she & her older brother now both prefer to open their other presents about 4-5pm on Christmas Day after I've had a rest. It works so well for all of us despite us taking years to get there ... !!

Rats decided they'd like to co-habit in our house on my birthday & they're still here under the floorboards in kitchen & running amok in the loft at night & scurrying up & down in the cavity between the walls & keeping us awake and our dog barking & circling her crazy rodent dance!
The rats have caused havoc chewing through 3 water outlet pipes causing leaks & floods. The last was the bath pipe so when my son showered water came flooding through the kitchen ceiling into the boiler below breaking it on the coldest days of the year! Thankfully we have a log burner and heater - we all missed hot water the most for the 3 days before it was restored. Mr rat exterminator man came this week & put down fresh poison ... hopefully we can soon sleep undisturbed again.

I've written far too much ... sorry ...
this comes with much love

Happy Christmas Jenny 🥰
I loved reading your Christmas memories! They are very similar to my childhood Christmas’s too! I never believed in Father Christmas either and it was never a thing when I was young - we always knew the presents were from mum and dad!

We’d always have a stocking at the end of our bed and me and my brother would be up bright and early a
Christmas Day and go in each others room to open them just the 2 of us!
Then we’d have breakfast as a family, open our presents and then often go to the Christmas service.

Christmas dinner was the best! Turkey, roast potatoes and all the trimmings!! And I love Christmas pudding and mince pies which we would have after! Then at 3pm we would always watch the Queens speech!

Boxing Day was always one of my favourite days - we’d go to Nanny and Grandads for picky bits for tea, a couple of presents and then games all night!! We’d have pennies to bet and we’d play uno and cards all evening with nibbles and chocolates!! 😀 often my cousin and Uncle, and my Nanny’s sister would be there too. My favourite day!

I really enjoyed your Christmas memories Jenny, your family sounds so full of love. And I loved being reminded of the Consequences game - that used to be a family favourite of ours too!
Christmas in my childhood was always at my grandmother's house with aunt and cousins, a big dinner followed by games once the adults were a bit tipsy. Charades, In the manner of the word, Pictionary (any visiting relatives who were not artistic really hated that one).
These days my favourite Christmas music is anything about Jesus that you can sing along to. Movie wise my husband loves the Die Hard films but I prefer Home Alone ;-) Happy Christmas and praying for progress for you in 2025. x

This was a lovely read - thank you for sharing! I felt the same about Father Christmas, but some of my friends who also grew up in the 90s were quite devastated to learn he wasn't real and were upset with their parents for lying to them. I also really related to not sleeping at all the night before Christmas - seemed to cope with the all-nighters a lot better as a kid than I would now though!

Happy Christmas to you too, Linda! I could send you my email address via facebook messenger, and you could send it via email or attachment to an email, if that’s easiest. Is that alright?
Merry Christmas!

Hi Jenny and Happy Christmas. I really enjoyed reading your reminiscences. I have no idea if it would be of interest, but I did a similar piece of writing for my writing group a year or so ago. It's quite long, so I don't know what would be the best way to share it if you'd like to read it. I'd rely on your advice! A lot of similarities in our Christmases in terms of trekking around family homes but most of all, the fact that everyone being together was the heart of it all. Merry Christmas to you xxx
